Cyber Threats & Attack Techniques
From 201CREDS

You cannot detect what you do not understand. This course walks the full attack lifecycle using the MITRE ATT&CK framework as the spine, so every technique you learn has a name defenders already use. You will study initial access through phishing, credential stuffing, and exposed services, then follow execution, persistence, privilege escalation, lateral movement, and exfiltration through worked examples. Malware families are covered by behaviour rather than brand: ransomware, infostealers, loaders, and remote access trojans, and what each leaves behind. Social engineering gets proper attention because it remains the most reliable way in. Throughout, each technique is paired with the log source and detection that catches it.

Curriculum

Learning Path

Each level is enrolled separately. Work through them in order, or start at the level that matches your experience.

  1. Level 01

    Beginner

    201 CREDS

    Purpose

Learn the threat landscape by behaviour, since malware brand names change and behaviour does not.

    Outcome

You can name what a piece of malware is doing from its effects.

    What You'll Learn
    • Separate ransomware, infostealers, loaders, and remote access trojans by what each one does.
    • Trace what each family leaves behind on a host.
    • Match a set of observed symptoms to the likely category.
  2. Level 02

    Intermediate

    444 CREDS

    Purpose

Study initial access, the stage that decides whether there is an incident at all.

    Outcome

You can identify how an attacker would most likely get in.

    What You'll Learn
    • Dissect phishing and pretexting by structure rather than by spelling errors.
    • Examine credential stuffing and password spraying against exposed services.
    • Review a real external attack surface and rank the ways in.
  3. Level 03

    Advanced

    767 CREDS

    Purpose

Follow the attack lifecycle using MITRE ATT&CK, so every technique carries a name defenders already use.

    Outcome

You can map an intrusion to ATT&CK and explain what came next and why.

    What You'll Learn
    • Walk execution, persistence, privilege escalation, and lateral movement on a lab host.
    • Map each observed action to its ATT&CK technique identifier.
    • Reconstruct the order of operations from the artefacts left behind.
  4. Level 04

    Expert

    1,030 CREDS

    Purpose

Turn attack knowledge into detection, which is the only form of it that protects anyone.

    Outcome

You can build detection coverage and state honestly where the gaps are.

    What You'll Learn
    • Pair each technique with the log source that reveals it.
    • Write a detection rule and measure it against benign activity for false positives.
    • Identify which techniques you cannot currently see at all and say what is needed.
